What & Who

The scientific aspect of the workshop will cover topics related to quantum information theory, foundations of quantum mechanics, and quantum computation. Topics covered will include: quantum information (e.g. cryptography, error correction, tomography, entanglement theory, many-body theory, quantum optics); quantum foundations (e.g. correlations, causality, generalised probabilistic theories, quantum thermodynamics, quantum gravity); quantum computation (e.g. simulation, algorithms, quantum complexity theory).

Invited speakers (scientific program)

Prof Barbara Amaral, Federal University of São João del-Rei, Minas Gerais, Brazil (resource theories)

Dr Miriam Backens, University of Oxford, UK (complexity theory)

Prof Dominic Horsman, Université Grenoble Alpes, France (quantum causality)

Dr Gláucia Murta, QuTech, Delft, Netherlands (quantum cryptography)

Dr Nelly Ng, Freie Universität Berlin, Germany (quantum thermodynamics)

Public lecture

Prof Anne Broadbent, University of Ottawa, Canada

The workshop aims to target and highlight under-represented world leading research in the fields of quantum information and foundations. As academics who value the power of education, we feel that the community would also benefit from the the opportunity to hear, and better understand the negative issues affecting them. These include, but are not limited to, diversity and inclusion, health and mental health, and workers' rights. We would like to create a dialogue in the community about issues affecting scientists with the goal of collectively making progress to resolve these problems. For this reason, as well as a scientific program, we will also hold an awareness program, featuring world leading researchers in the fields.

Invited speakers and panel discussion (awareness program)

Prof Anne Broadbent, University of Ottawa, Canada (diversity, women in science)

Prof Ariel Bendersky, University of Buenos Aires, Argentina (workers’ rights)
Prof Havi Carel, University of Bristol, UK (unconscious bias, prejudice, solutions)

Dr Lucia Ciccia, IIF-SADAF, Buenos Aires, Argentina (gender and neuroscience)
Prof Nara Guisoni, Universidad Nacional de La Plata, Argentina (gender equality in science)
Prof Dominic Horsman, Université Grenoble Alpes, France (representation and inclusion)
Prof Renato Pedrosa, Unicamp, Campinas, Brazil (diversity and social inclusion)
